Avec Ontologies, Géraldine Eguiluz et ses complices Jean René à l’alto et Stéphane Diamantakiou à la contrebasse, interrogent notre nature d’être. Neuf dessins sonores ont donnée naissance à une suite de douze pièces inspirées de plusieurs sources: des principes de physique quantique, le langage symbolique de la biologie et le Yi Jhing. Multiple de trois ou sainte trinité, l’équilibre de ce trio se développe entre les silences, l’instrumentation intime de la musique de chambre confrontée au folklores terrestres de la flûte bulgare, kalimba et guitare; la force et la vulnérabilité de la trompette de poche, deux voix d’homme, une voix de femme. Le trio évoque le cosmos entre la liberté de l’écoute, l’oreille vide d’intentions, jouant avec l’éloignement des racines de la tonalité; les formes spontanées des compositions improvisées et une émotion connectée à ses centres vitaux, le point le trait, le rythme et l’arrêt, le timbre et le son.

With Ontologies, Géraldine Eguiluz and her accomplices, violist Jean René and bassist Stéphane Diamantakiou, interrogate the very nature of being. Nine musical drawings are at the root of this twelve-part work, which is further animated by diverse influences: Quantum physics, the symbolic language of biology, and the I Ching. This trio, between its silences, pursues a musical equilibrium with the sacred numerological implications of multiples of three and the Holy Trinity. It balances the intimacy of chamber music; the folk-music earthiness of the Bulgarian flute, kalimba and guitar; and the strength and vulnerability of the pocket trumpet, two male voices, and one female voice. The trio evokes the cosmos within the freedom of listening without intention and of playing away from the roots of tonality. These are spontaneous, improvised compositions and emotions connected to their vital centres, the point and the line, the rhythm and the break, the timbre and the sound.
